Only one Tata Nano sold in 6 months, no production since Dec 2018

New Delhi: Once touted as people’s car- Tata Nano had not seen a single sale in last six months, according to regulatory filings by the company. On top of that there has not been there has been no production since December 2018.

The company, however, said it has not taken a formal decision on stopping production of the Tata’s budget car. It said that it will continue to sell the car as per demand, reported Bloomberg Quint.

According to regulatory filings by Tata Motors, the last time it produced the Tata Nano was in December 2018 when it rolled out 82 units from the Sanand plant near Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Since then, from January to June, there was no production of the Nano car.

In the past, Tata Motors has hinted that Nano production would be stopped from April 2020 as it has no plans to invest further on Ratan Tata’s dream car to meet strict emission norm under BS-VI and upcoming new safety regulations.

Tata Nano was launched in the market in March 2009 with an initial price of close to Rs 1 lakh for the basic model.
