New Volvo XC90 SUV with petrol mild-hybrid engine launched in India

Swedish automaker Volvo has launched its new premium mild-hybrid SUV XC60 in the India. The Volvo XC90 is the third car from the manufacturer that has a petrol mild-hybrid powertrain. The Volvo XC90 mild hybrid launched in India at an attractive price of Rs 89.9 lakh (ex-showroom). This mild-hybrid SUV is offered with a petrol engine. With the launch of XC90, Volvo has completed the transition to Petrol portfolio. With a transition to Petrol, the company is expecting to reduce carbon footprint.

The biggest change that the Volvo XC90 receives is a transition to petrol mild hybrid engine. The earlier model of the SUV used a 2.0 litre diesel engine that generated 235hp of power. The current model has a 2.0-litre petrol engine along with a 48V integrated starter generator motor. This engine produces a maximum power of 300hp and a peak torque of 420Nm. The engine is coupled with an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission along with all-wheel drive as a standard.

Even though the previously launched Volvo S90 and Volvo XC60 received a design change as they were converted to mild-electric, the new Volvo XC90 retains its looks. The car is offered in four external colours- Crystal White Pearl, Onyx Black, Denim Blue and Pine Grey.

When it comes to features the recently launched Volvo XC90 mild hybrid  gets a new ‘Advanced Air Cleaner’, 9-inch infotainment screen, 12.3-inch digital driver display, adaptive cruise control, climate control, panoramic sunroof, Bowers and Wilkins sound system with 19 speakers etc.

Some of the safety features that the Volvo S90 SUV includes are pilot assist, lane keeping aid, 360 degree camera, parking assist, collision mitigation support etc. In terms of interior design or upholstery, this seven seater SUV can be availed with two colour themes-Amber or Brown.

Given the premium segment, to which the Volvo XC90 belongs, it will compete with the like of Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, and Range Rovar Velar in India.
