Market opens flat as Rupee slips 11 paise vs Dollar

Mumbai: The Indian equity benchmarks opened flat on Friday, 14 June, on the last trading session of the week. The Rupee too opened on a weak note and declined by 11 paise to 69.61 against the US dollar in opening trade today as rising crude oil price concerns weighed on investor community.

The Sensex was down 22.28 points at 39,719.08, while Nifty was down 16.60 points at 11,897.40. Nine out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by BSE traded lower, led by NSE Nifty Realty Index’s 0.63 per cent fall. On the flipside, the NSE Nifty Financial Service Index was the top sectoral gainer, up 0.5 per cent.

Meanwhile, the opened weak at 69.55 at the interbank forex market and then fell further to 69.61, down 11 paise over its last close. The rupee had settled at 69.50 against the US dollar on Thursday.

Forex traders said rupee is trading in a narrow range as prospects of an interest rate cut by the US Federal Reserve kept investors edgy.
