Kinetic to relaunch its Luna Moped in an electric version soon; Check feature, price

The demand for electric vehicles has been increasing in the recent days due to the rising fuel prices in India.  In view of the growing market of Electric Vehicles (EV), many automakers are launching electric motorcycles and electric scooters in the country.

Now the Pune-based company Kinetic Energy has also joined the list. Kinetic is all set to relaunch its old popular Luna Moped in a new electric avatar. The company is soon going to launch Kinetic Luna Electric Moped in the Indian market. The Luna is expected to come with a very good battery range.

MD of Moto Royale and part of Kinetic Group, Ajinkya Firodia, has confirmed this news on social media.

The Kinetic Luna Electric Moped seems to have advanced towards the production phase, and it is likely to be launched this year.

The Kinetic Luna made its debut in 1972 as a licensed version of Piaggio Ciao and it was discontinued in early 2000s. The Luna had a small, 50cc moped designed for everyday movement. The Luna gave the users a smooth, comfortable and economical ride.

The new Electric Luna will retain the charm of its original design with the addition of some modern elements in it.

Speed and Range

The upcoming Kinetic Luna Electric is expected to get a 1KW electric motor with a Li-ion battery pack to power it.

The Kinetic Luna Electric is said to be capable of covering a distance of up to 80 kms on full charge. Its top speed will be around 25 kilometers per hour.

As it is a low-speed electric vehicle, you may not need to registration and will not require a driving license.

The electric will may feature electric self start, LED light, DRL, USB charger, digital instrument console. It will have enough storage space. The company is also working on another scooter, which will offer more speed and features.

Price

The Kinetic Luna Electric is expected to cost less than Rs 50,000.

The Luna is likely to arrive in two variants – Commercial and Personal. The commercial variant will have a storage box, which will be very helpful for delivery work. It could be offered with a removable battery pack, which will make charging more convenient.

According to the report, Kinetic Luna Electric will be produced at the company’s new Ahmedner plant, which is spread over an area of ​​more than 30 acres and has four sheds of 65,000 square feet each.

After its launch, Kinetic Luna Electric will compete with the Gemopai Miso in the Indian market. The only other moped currently available in the Indian market is the TVS XL100, but it is not an electric vehicle as it is equipped with an IC-engine.
