Is Tata Tiago CNG a worthy competitor for its rivals? Know details about the comparison

With the launch of CNG versions of Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor, Tata Motors has entered the CNG passenger car segment in India. Earlier the segment was occupied by manufactures like Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki only. Despite having the same engine the Tiago and Tigor have a price difference of more than 1 lakh. Considering that Tiago is the cheaper vehicle of the both, we expect the customers to be inclined towards it than the Tigor. On the other hand the Tigor is a premium CNG car and has its own niche.

Tata Tiago CNG has its competition from Hyundai Santro CNG, Maruti Wagon R CNG and Maruti Celerio CNG.  The details about the four cars are mentioned below and you can find out whether it is suitable for your need or not.

Engine

When it comes to engine, the Tata Tiago CNG is powered by 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Revotron engine. The 1.2-litre engine churns out a power of 73bhp and a peak torque of 95Nm. The gearbox is a 5-speed manual transmission and is offered as a standard. The fuel efficiency of Tiago is 26.49 km/kg.

The 2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG is powered by a 1.0 litre 3-cylinder engine that generates a power of 57hp and 82.1Nm torque. The car offers an attractive fuel efficiency of 35.60 km/kg.

Santro CNG on the other hand gets a 1.1-litre inline 4-cyllinder engine that generates a 60hp of peak power and 85Nm of maximum torque. The gearbox is 5-speed manual transmission. The car offers an attractive fuel efficiency of 30.48 km/kg.

The Wagon R CNG is offered with a 1.0 litre engine that offers 59hp of power and 78Nm of torque. It gets a 5-speed gearbox with a manual transmission. The car offers an attractive fuel efficiency of 32.52 km/kg.

Dimensions

In terms of dimensions, the Tiago CNG is the longest at 3765mm while the Santro CNG is the smallest at 3610mm. The Celerio CNG is the second longest at 3695mm while Wagon R CNG comes third in the list at 3655mm.

In terms of width the Tiago CNG is 1677mm while the Celerio CNG, Santro CNG and Wagon R CNG have width of 1655mm, 1645mm and 1620mm respectively.

The Wagon R CNG is the tallest of the four with 1675mm height. The Santro CNG comes second in the list with 1560mm height. The Celerio CNG and Tiago CNG have height of 1555mm and 1535mm respectively.

The wheelbase of the Wagon R CNG and Celerio CNG is the highest with 2435mm. On the other hand, the Tiago CNG and Santro CNG have a wheelbase of 2400mm.

When it comes to tyre size all the hatchbacks except the Wagon R CNG have 14-inch wheels. The Wagon R CNG has 13-inch wheels.

Price

The Tata Tiago CNG price starts from Rs 6.10 lakh and goes up to Rs 7.53 lakh. The base model of Tata Tiago (XE) is same as that of the Santro CNG. The Santro CNG is available between Rs 6.10 lakh and 6.38 lakh. The Celerio CNG is available at Rs 6.58 lakh while the Wagon R CNG is available between Rs 6.13 lakh and Rs 6.19 lakh.
