Initial Pictures of Rakesh Jhunjhunwala backed Akasa Air surfaces out, launch delayed

New airline, Akasa Air which is backed by ace investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala is expected to start its operation July 2022. Initially expected to begin its operation in June, the launch of Akasa Air got postponed to July. The first delivery of the aircraft is expected to be in June. Prior to the delivery of the aircraft, Akasa Air on Monday (today) has shared first pictures of the aircraft.

Akasa Air through its official Twitter handle has shared the initial pictures of the aircraft. “Can’t keep calm! Say hi to our QP-pie,” said Akasa Air on the first picture of the aircraft. For those who are wondering what is ‘QP’, it is the airline code for Akasa Air. For those who have taken flights might have marked codes (like 6E, G8, AI) on their tickets. While 6E stands for IndiGo, AI stands for Air India and UK stands for for Vistara.

The Civil aviation ministry of India had handed no-objection certificate (NOC) to Akasa Air way back in October 2021. This roughly means that Akasa Air can start commercial flights. Vinay Dube, CEO, Akasa Air had earlier mentioned that delivery will begin from June and the operations will begin in July 2022.

Back in November 2021, Akasa Air had signed a deal with Aircraft manufacturer Boeing. Under the deal, Akasa Air will get 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala teamed up with Aditya Ghosh, former (CEO of IndiGo) and Vinay Dube (CEO of Jet Airways), to launch the Akasa Air.

The Covid-19 pandemic had a massive impact on business of India including the Airlines industry. The Airlines industry suffered a heavy impact due to Covid. After a period of almost two years the airlines industry is slowly gaining momentum in terms of sales.

Jet Airways is currently planning to relaunch its services in this year. The airlines had ceased operations in early 2019 due to financial difficulties.
