In a major move, Indian Railways will soon allow passengers to change the date of their reserved tickets online. The facility is expected to be rolled out by January 2026.

According to the reports, railways ministry officials have directed their teams to develop and implement the service by early next year.

The online platform will follow the same rules as the current counter-based system, ensuring reliability while making the process simpler for users.

Further, the 48-hour advance window for date changes is expected to stay, though the exact fee structure for the online facility is yet to be finalised.

Authorities have reportedly said that charges will take into account both passenger convenience and operational costs, with details likely to be announced near the launch.

At present, travellers who wish to change their ticket dates must visit railway reservation counters at least 48 hours before their journey and pay a fee.
