Honda confirms the launch of new sub-four metre SUV, To rival Brezza and Venue

Japanese automaker Honda will be launching a new SUV in the Indian market very soon. Honda is all set to introduce the new SUV ZR-V (codename). This upcoming SUV will be a sub-four meter in length and will be based on the same platform as Honda City sedan.

The new Honda ZR-V is expected to debut on November 11, 2021. Honda will present the new compact SUV at GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). Initial reports about the SUV suggest that it is meant especially for the South Asian markets. In India the Honda ZR-V will likely replace the Honda WR-V. At present Honda offers the WR-V as an only sub-four metre SUV.

Keeping in mind that the new Honda ZR-V is based on the platform of new Honda City, it is likely to 1695 mm in width and 1600 mm in height. Honda had recently teased the sketch of the upcoming SUV to reveal the new design elements. At the front, the SUV will have a large grille along with a frame at the top which extends to the headlights. The teaser also reveals newly designed LED tail lamps along with a RS badging (which hints of a turbocharged variant).

In terms of interior, we expect that the new Honda SUV will feature a digital instrumental cluster along with TFT display for connectivity. It is expected that the SUV will get connectivity features like Android Auto and Apple Car Play as well. The engine of the Honda ZR-SUV is expected to be a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine. Apart from the 1.2 litre petrol engine, it is expected to be offered in 1.5- litre i-VTEC as well as the 1.0-litre turbocharged engine. The 1.2-litre engine can produce a power of 90 hp. On the other hand, the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre engine will offer 116 hp and 122 hp of power respectively.

After its launch the Honda ZR-V is expected to rival some of its segment best SUVs. In India the ZR-V will give tough fight to Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Nexon etc. We expect that the Honda ZR-V will be priced in the similar range like the Honda WR-V. Currently, the WR-V costs between Rs 8.76 lakh- Rs 11.79 lakhs (ex-showroom price in New Delhi).
