Have you ever imagined that the colour of your car can be changed by clicking just a button? If no, then get ready to be surprised. BMW has recently demonstrated its iX M60 electric SUV with a colour changing technology that enables you to change colour of the SUV with just a click of a button. BMW showcased the technology at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022.

During the demonstration, BMW shows the audience how the iX M60 electric SUV changes the colour from dark grey to white. The car manufacturer revealed the details of the technology later during the show.

This colour changing technology is possible after the partnership of BMW with a company called E-Ink. E-Ink uses a surface coating that contains millions of microcapsules that have a diameter equal to that of human hair. Each of the microcapsules contains two pigments- white pigment and black pigment. While the white pigments are negatively charged, the black pigments are positively charged. Upon selecting a configuration, an electric field will be generated. The electric field will cause the white or black pigments to accumulate on the surface of the microcapsule and it will result in a desired effect.

At present the available colour effects are limited to three colours- white, black and gray. During the function, Christoph Grote, senior vice president of electronics at BMW Group said “The car dresses you; it expresses you not just from the inside but from the outside so we have tried to create a technology and adapted it to the car that allows you to do that “. He also mentioned that the vehicle will be able to change colours from dark to light as you are driving under hot driving conditions.

Apart from flashing up the colours, the BMW iX M60 can help you locate it if you parked it in a crowded parking lot.

The BMW iX M60 is the more powerful version of the BMW electric iX that debuted in 2021. The SUV is equipped with two electric motors and can provide a total output of 455 kW/ 619 PS. The SUV can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.

Even though BMW has not announced about the price of the BMW iX M60, we expect it to cost more than Rs 2 crore if launched in India.
