Online retailers are witnessing record breaking sales across the country during the initial phase of various festive sale events hosted by them. These companies are seeing a significant portion of traffic coming from Tier-II and Tier-III cities and towns.
The Big Billion Days were held on September 27 for every user and it started on September 26 for Flipkart VIP and Plus customers.
Around 33 CRORE users visited Flipkart on Day 1 & Early Access combined during the 11th edition of the company’s The Big Billion Days (TBBD) 2024 sale event.
According to Harsh Chaudhary, vice-president – growth, Flipkart, Some of the early trends indicate an increase in demand for categories that enable a lifestyle upgrade; and Tier-II+ cities have been showing growth in the run-up to this year’s festive season. This festive season, Indians are upgrading their lifestyle! Early trends show increased demand for premium products.
The Big Billion Days 2024 initial trends reveal that many customers are showing interest in mobiles, electronics, and lifestyle products. Top metro cities such as New Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru continued to see growing demand during the first 24 hours of The Big Billion Days 2024. Customers from Medinipur, Hisar, Berhampore, Bankura, and Agartala, and many more regions also showing interest in the shopping festival. Customers are mostly buying life style elevating products such as, ethnic wear, Western wear, sports footwear, casual footwear, and formal footwear. All these products saw heightened demand during Early Access and Day 1 of The Big Billion Days.
Shopsy, Flipcart’s hypervalue Platform witnessed Significant Growth, with 70% Increase in Customer Visits and 2.8x Jump in Transactions. Popular categories like lifestyle, home and kitchen grew by 2x, while beauty and personal care saw 3x growth.

Meanwhile Meesho, which launched its annual ‘Meesho Mega Blockbuster Sale’ on September 27, reported a 100% increase in Day 1 orders compared to last year and surpassed daily orders by more than 3x. Additionally Meesho became the most installed app on the Google Play store. Around 1.5 crore people downloaded the app during the Meesho Mega Blockbuster Sale. It saw an average of 506 kurtis, 376 sarees, and 360 kids’ wear items sold every minute.
“We achieved a record-breaking feat of doubling our Day 1 orders over last year. Not just that, Meesho Mall also grew by about 2.5x in orders over last year,” said Megha Agarwal, general manager, business at Meesho.
