Family of road accident victim get Rs 87 lakh compensation after 5 years
Road accidents are one of the worst incidents that can happen to anyone who is traveling on the road. According to a report by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), India has logged 1.35 lakh cases of “hit and run” since 2018. Recently, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded Rs 87 lakh as a compensation amount to a deceased man’s family.
According to reports by PTI, MACT Maharashtra has awarded Rs 87 lakh compensation to the family of a businessman who deceased in 2016 due to road accident. Along with the insurance company, the MACT has ordered the owner of truck involved in the incident to pay the compensation amount. The compensation amount includes an interest of 7 per cent from the date of filling the claim.
The interest rate will be hiked to 8 per cent if the opponents fail to pay the amount within two months.
The fatal incident took place Ranjnoli village of Thane (Maharashtra) in February 4, 2016 when Jivraj Singh was riding on his motorcycle and was killed by a truck as it rammed into his bike.
The deceased was into a cloth packaging business and had an income of around Rs 6.17 lakh yearly. Jivraj is survived by a wife, three children and parents. The remaining family belongs to Churu from Rajasthan.
