TVS Ronin: Will the new TVS motorcycle make a niche for itself

TVS has launched its latest motorcycle ‘Ronin’ in India this week and we have a lot of hopes from it. The TVS Ronin is presented as a modern retro motorcycle which has modern electronics on board. The design is quite attractive and the price at which it is launched makes it a budget friendly motorcycle. The initial variant of the TVS Ronin costs Rs 1.49 lakh ex-showroom, which seems decent for a 225cc motorcycle.

The details of the TVS Ronin have been mentioned below in details in order to give you a proper overview.

Engine

The TVS Ronin is powered by a new 225.9cc, single cylinder, oil-cooled, fuel-injected engine. TVS could have gone with an engine used in the 200cc Apache, but they decided not to and rather went for a brand new engine. The TVS Ronin has a character of its own is not something what a typical Apache offers to you.  The engine offers a 20.4 PS of maximum power @ 7750 rpm while the peak torque is 19.93 Nm @ 3750rpm. The 225.9cc engine is paired with a 5 speed gearbox and the presence of Assist and Slipper clutch makes the ride smooth.

Dimensions and Chassis

The dimensions of the TVS Ronin are 2040 mm x 805 mm x 1170 mm (length x width x height). The wheelbase of the Ronin is 1357 mm while the seat height is 795 mm. The ground clearance is 181 mm while the kerb weight is 160 kg. The fuel tank of 14 litres feels sufficient for everyday rides.

The Ronin is supported by a ‘Double Cradle Split Synchro Stiff Frame’ along with a 41 mm USD suspension at the front. The rear suspension of the motorcycle is handled by a mono shock with 7 step adjustable preload.

Tyres and safety

A 110/70- 17 Tubeless front tyre and a 130/70-17 Tubeless rear tyre makes your travelling quite smooth. The 9 Spoke Alloy Wheels totally compliment the design of the motorcycle. The dual disc brake setup in offered on the bike (300mm at front, 240mm at rear). A Dual Channel ABS braking system is on offer for additional safety. The ABS adapts according to the two modes- Rain and Urban.

Design and connectivity

The major attractions in terms of design are asymmetric speedometer, wide-block tread tyres, custom exhaust, chain cover, land All-LED headlamp and taillamp. The T-Face pilot lamp gives a unique design to the circular headlamp. The Headlamp rim is grey-coloured and looks quite neat. The USD front forks are Bright Gold in colour while the seat is brown/ black (depending on the variant). The Bluetooth feature on the circular speedometer can be used to connect with your smartphone. Navigation updates along with ride analysis can be tracked through the TVS SmartXonnet.

Price and Colours

The Ronin gets three variants and each trim gets two colour options. The Single Tone single channel ABS variant is offered in Lightening Black and Magna Red and costs Rs 1,49,000. The Dual Tone Channel ABS variant gets Stargaze Black and Magma Red colours and costs Rs 1,56,500. The Triple Tone Dual Channel ABS variant is offered in Galactic Grey and Dawn Orange colours and costs Rs 1,68,750.

Rivals

The TVS Ronin does not have any direct rivals in its segment. However, the Royal Enfield Classic 350/ Meteor 350 and the Honda H’Ness CB 350/ RS 350 can be considered as distant rivals.

(Note: The prices mentioned in the article are that of ex-showroom price. Kindly contact your nearest TVS dealer for on-road prices.)

The real Rival to TVs Ronin is Avenger 220. Media and people are deliberately comparing, and pitching it against RE, Honda etc. Just to spread a justification for the product pricing which is unjustified , otherwise. It’s a one one with Avenger only except price, and may be performance and power
