Renault Duster production stopped In India; New gen SUV expected to arrive in 2023

Renault Duster production has reportedly stopped in India. The dealers of the vehicle has confirmed that it is no longer in production. The Renault Duster was launched in 2012 an was one of most popular vehicle in the mid-size SUV segment. However, many reports have suggested that the French automaker is planning to introduce a new third-generation Duster in coming years (possibly in 2023).

The compact SUV is a global offering with market-specific modifications and is popular for its rugged abilities. However, it could not keep up with the competition in the compact SUV space as its design and feature-set is outdated.

The company launched the second-gen Duster in global markets in 2017. But, it did not come to the Indian market. However, it did received a a facelift in 2019 and it received a 106PS 1.5-litre unit petrol offering in March 2020 and a 156PS 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine in August 2020.

Now, the reports have suggested the Indian market might see the arrival of the third-gen model and skip the second-gen Duster.  The third-gen model is said to be compatible with electrification as well

The 2023 Renault Duster will be build on the basis of the Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s CMF-B platform, which is  also used in Sandero. The architecture is claimed to be made as per different markets and customer expectations around the world. The new Duster is rumored to be offered with 7-seats configuration. Both the petrol variants got a standard manual transmission, but only the turbo-petrol gets a CVT option.

The 2023 Renault Duster’s design and styling is likely to be based on the Dacia Bigster concept that previewed the brand’s future 7-seater SUV. The concept features an aggressive looking grille with integrated LED lights, Dacia’s signature Y-shaped headlamps. It sports a squared-off front bumper with a large central grille with vertical air intakes, black plastic cladding. The concept was also seen with multi spoke alloy wheels and Y-shaped taillamps.

The new Duster is expected to be packed with advanced connectivity features.

Though Renault has stopped the production of Duster, the models which are in dealer stock would be available for purchase. The price of the Renault Duster in India currently starts from Rs 9.86 lakh to Rs 14.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Duster rivals the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, and Maruti S-Cross.
