As the global tablet market declined by 8.6 percent due to the fall of shipments to 36.4 million, Apple continues to lead the race.
According to the IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker, Samsung remains at the second position and Amazon.com became the third largest tablet manufacturer.
Slate tablets accounted for the majority of the market with 31.6 million units. Detachable tablets also declined, down to 13.1 percent from the previous year, to account for 4.8 million unit shipments.
Lauren Guenveur, the Senior Research Analyst for IDC’s Tablet team said, “The detachable market has failed to see growth in 2018, a worrying trend that has plagued the category off and on since the end of 2016.”
Huawei stands at the fourth spot and was the only company among the top 5 to deliver year-over-year tablet shipments growth in 3Q 2018.
Lenovo rounded out the top 5 with 2.3 million units shipped in the third quarter.
