Smartphone users are receiving one after another bad news. Earlier, it was reported that Amazon is going to increase the price of its subscription fee, now a new report has suggested that prepaid plans of Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea may become expensive soon.
According to reports, the telecom operators may increase the price of some selected plans only. However, the price hike won’t be applicable to all plans.
In the last few years, the telecom sector has seen many major changes. For example, customers used to get the facility of incoming calls for lifetime, but now they have to make recharge for the service.
Reason for the prepaid plan price hike
As you already know, Amazon is going to increase the subscription fee of Prime membership by 50 percent. This will affect the telecom sector as operators provide free Amazon Prime subscription with many prepaid plans. So, Jio, Vodafone Idea and Airtel may increase the price of these prepaid plans as well.
The increase of subscription fee may also cause the operators to stop provide free subscription to Amazon Prime with prepaid plans. That means users won’t get any subscription to Amazon or any other over the top (OTT) platform with new plans.
Amazon has also clearly said that the telecom companies whose plans with which the subscription was available for free, will also be affected by this.
Amazon Prime subscription will be costlier
According to the support page of Amazon, the monthly price of Amazon Prime has increased to Rs 179 from Rs 129. On the other hand, the much popular Rs 329 quarterly plan will cost around Rs 459. Post the price hike, the Rs 999 pack yearly plan of Amazon Prime will cost Rs 1499.
Although Amazon has not set any date for this, the new price will be applicable soon. Amazon Prime was introduced in India five years ago.
