Volkswagen has unveiled its new mid-size sedan-Volkswagen Virtus in India. The company is expected to launch the sedan in the upcoming months. The Volkswagen Virtus will replace Volkswagen Vento in the Indian market. It should be kept in mind that the Volkswagen Virtus is already sold in the global market. The new Volkswagen sedan shares similarity in its interior and features with the recently launched Taigun SUV. The Virtus is based on the MQB AO-IN platform which is the same as that of the Skoda Slavia. In terms of dimensions, the VW Virtus measures 4561mm in length, 1752mm in width and 1507mm in height. The wheelbase of the sedan is 2651mm while the boot space is 521 litres.

The new Volkswagen sedan is powered by a powerful 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. The 1.0-litre engine generates maximum power of 115hp and the top torque figures recorded by the sedan will be 175 Nm. The 1.0-litre petrol engine will be coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Users will also be offered with a 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The other engine is a  1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The engine generates a peak power of 150hp while the maximum power is 250 Nm. The 1.5-litre engine also gets a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

In terms of exterior, the Volkswagen sedan is quite similar to that of the Skoda Slavia (due to the same platform). The Virtus gets a two-slat grille, auto LED headlamps, wraparound bumper and a neat design of the bumper.

The sedan is loaded with features in the interior. The range of features includes electric sunroof, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, three-spoke steering wheel, 8-inch digital instrument cluster, 6 airbags, LED projector headlamps, LED tail-light, cooled glovebox, ESC, hill-hold control and many others.

The Volkswagen Virtus will be available in six colour options which include Wild Cherry Red, Volkswagen Virtus, Reflex Silver, Curcuma Yellow, Carbon Steel Grey and Candy White.

We expect that the new Volkswagen Virtus will cost around Rs 9 lakh to Rs 15 lakh as it launches in the Indian market.

After its launch the Volkswagen Virtus will compete with the likes of other mid-size sedans available in India. The Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz are expected to compete with the likes of Volkswagen Virtus.
