Volkswagen Tiguan gets an update, offers refreshed interior along with ADAS features

Volkswagen has updated its most premium SUV- Tiguan in India. The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan now gets refreshed interiors, ADAS features and the engine is now compliant with the latest BS6 Phase 2 norms. There has been a slight rise in the price of the SUV along with the updates. Now, the Tiguan costs Rs 50,000 more than the outgoing model. The base price of the SUV starts from Rs 34.70 lakh. However, there are no mechanical updates on the Tiguan.

The Volkswagen Tiguan gets a new dual-tone, grey and white interior-themed cabin. The earlier cabin on the SUV was all-black cabin. There are certain features which have been added in the SUV as well. The Tiguan offers wireless charging and all passenger seat belt reminders. Some other safety features include six airbags, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, adjustable head restraints and three-point seat belts for all seats.

The SUV gets Level 1 ADAS features. When it comes to parking, the Park Assist system on the updated Tiguan offers parallel parking in an empty parking space. Some controls like the brakes and accelerator are still under the control of the driver during parking.

When it comes to engine, Volkswagen has retained the 2.0-litre petrol turbocharged engine which is now compliant with BS6 Phase II emission norms. The engine generates a power of 190bhp and a peak torque of 320Nm. It is mated with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as a standard unit.  The SUV gets 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system as standard. Volkswagen has also managed to improve the mileage of the Tiguan. The ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of the SUV is now 13.54 kmpl against 12.65 kmpl.

In India the Volkswagen Tiguan gets competition from Hyundai Tucson, Citroen C5 Aircross, and Jeep Compass. The company is also working on an electric variant of the Tiguan and it is expected to make a debut in 2025.
