Toyota Hilux: First pickup truck by Toyota launched in India at Rs 33.99 lakh

Toyota has finally launched its first pickup truck- Toyota Hilux in India today. The bookings of the vehicle had been already opened by the company and interested buyers can book the Toyota Hilux at just Rs 50,000. The starting price of the Toyota Hilux pickup truck starts from Rs 33.99 lakh.

Price and variants

For those who are unknown, the Toyota Hilux Pickup truck is a lifestyle vehicle offered by Toyota Motor Corporation. Even though it was introduced by the company way back in 1968 in various markets, it hadn’t been launched in India yet. Toyota Hilux is offered in three variants- Standard (4x4MT), High (4×4 MT) and High (4×4 AT). The Hilux Standard variant is priced at Rs 33.99 lakh and the Hilux High MT is priced at Rs 35.80 lakh. On the other hand, the Hilux High AT variant is the top variant and costs Rs 36.80 lakh.

Power and dimensions

The Toyota Hilux is powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine that is previously seen in the Fortuner. The engine churns out maximum power of 204 bhp and 420 Nm (MT) / 500 Nm (AT) of peak torque. The emission standard of the pick-up truck is according to BS6 norms. The dimensions of the pick-up truck are 5325 mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,815mm in height. The wheelbase of the Hilux is 3085mm and this makes its longer than it’s nearest rival Isuzu D-max V-Cross. The Hilux has an IMV ladder-frame chassis that is present in the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner.

Design and exterior

The design of the Toyota Hilux is quite distinct but draws similarity with the Fortuner.The Hilux features a huge hexagonal grille along with lots of chrome touches. The skid plates are present on the front and at the end of the vehicle. The headlamps are LED while the fog lamps are housed in an L-shaped lamp pods.

Transmission and connectivity

In terms of transmission, the pick-up truck will be powered by a 6-speed manual/ automatic gearbox. The Toyota Hilux is offered as a 4×4 drivetrain and has a water wading capacity of 700mm. The Hilux gets a low-range gearbox along with front and rear electronic differential locks for improved off-road ability. It will have an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, multi-functional steering wheel, seven airbags, auto climate control, automatic headlamps etc.

Warranty

Considering the current automobile market in India, the Toyota Hilux will get tough competition from Isuzu Hi-Lander and V-Cross. The 18-inch alloy wheels on the Toyota Hilux provide it an excellent off-roading capability. Toyota offers a standard warranty which covers three years or 1 lakh km. However, the buyers also get an offer for warranty extension that goes up to 5 years/ 2.2 lakh km.

Colour options

In terms of colour options, the Toyota Hilux will be available in five colour tones. The five colour tones include Emotional Red, Gray Metallic,White Pearl CS, Silver Metallic and Super White.
