OLA officially teases its first electric cars, launch expected in 2023

Ola Electric is reportedly preparing to enter the Indian electric four wheeler segment with two upcoming electric cars. The company also plans to bring an affordable scooter. Ola Electric officially teased its first electric car at a customer event at the Ola Future factory.

Though the EV startup is facing issues related to its electric scooter, it has not stopped working on the upcoming electric car. The company released a 30 second teaser video of its upcoming premium electric cars during the ‘Ola Customer Day’ event held at the site of the company’s upcoming facility near Krishnagiri, TN.  The interesting thing is that the company has teased of more than one electric car in the video.

New OLA Electric Cars

The teaser video has shown three new Ola electric cars in the making. As per the video, one of the upcoming Ola EV cars could be a low-slung sporty sedan with a coupe roof-line and modern design. While the other two could be an electric SUV / coupe and a hatchback. The Ola sedan takes a lot of aerodynamic liberty in its exterior styling. The new Ola electric car’s design features include a wedged shaped front fascia, an LED lighting signature that runs across the width of the car, a swooping roofline, and Kia-like rear fascia.

The company has not shared any more information about the upcoming Electric cars of Ola but, CEO Bhavish Aggarwal stated that more details will be revealed on August 15. Ola Electric’s venture into the passenger car segment is expected in about 2 year’s time.

Furthermore tipster Yogesh Brar have shared that the company is working on two EV models for India- a SUV and a sedan. The cars will be launched in late 2023 after the company successfully deploys its battery plant. He also tipped that Ola is working on an affordable scooter with a new chassis and cruise control.

Powertrain, range (Expected)

The upcoming Ola EV car is speculated to be supported by a lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of around 60-80 kWh. Aided by an impressively low aerodynamic co-efficient and frontal area. This battery could provide a range of over 500 km. A 0-100 kph time of less than 7 seconds and a top-speed in excess of 150 kmph would be a nice place to start in terms of performance. These numbers might be similar for their sedan, hatchback and SUV, or they could be different.
