No Strong-Hybrid for Honda Elevate, To get an EV variant instead

Honda has announced that it will move straight ahead with a fully electric variant of the recently unveiled Honda Elevate instead of a hybrid.

Honda recently unveiled the Elevate globally during an event in India. Now, the company has announced it’s future plans for the new mid-size SUV in the Indian market.

According to Honda, the Elevate SUV will skip the strong-hybrid powertrain options, instead, it will directly jump to the EV variant.

Honda Elevate not to get hybrid powertrain

While, we were expecting Honda Elevate SUV to be offered in both the same petrol and strong-hybrid powertrain options in India. The company has some different plans for the SUV. Honda has confirmed that the Elevate SUV will be launched in a fully electric variant by 2026.

That means till the launch of the Elevate EV, it will be offered in only the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 121PS of power and 145Nm of torque. The motor is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic.

Honda Elevate EV

The EV variant of the SUV will be coming to us in the next three years. Apart from this not much information is known about the upcoming EV.

Not much is known about the Elevate EV as of now, except that it will be coming to us in the next three years. We do believe that it could offer a competitive claimed range of around 400-450km with a battery compatible for DC fast charging. Honda might position it as a rival to the MG ZS EV, priced at around the Rs 20-lakh mark (ex-showroom).

Honda Elevate price, design, feature details

The Honda Elevate features a large octagonal grille with a Honda logo in the middle. The headlights are embedded with the LED DRLs and are placed under a thick chrome bar. The fog lamps are present below the headlamps.

From the sides, the SUV gets plastic cladding over the wheel arches. It runs on 17-inch alloy wheels and has connected tail-lights that are connected with each other with a red bar.

Inside the cabin, the SUV gets a single sunroof in the interior along with 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment. The SUV also gets a 7-inch semi-digital instrument cluster. Key features on the SUV include lane-watch camera, wireless charging, wireless smartphone integration, rear parking, and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also gets ADAS features.

The Elevate is Honda’s newest offering, destined to compete in the hotly contested compact SUV space in India such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, and Maruti Grand Vitara. It is expected to hit showrooms this festive season, with prices ranging from Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
