Skoda Auto India recently unveiled the all new Kylaq in November 6, 2024. The new turbo petrol sub-4 metre compact SUV is set to make its debut in January 2025. Ahead of its launch, the SUV will be available for bookings from December 2. The price has been announced only for the base variant, which is Rs 7,89,000 (ex-showroom). This price is quite affordable in comparison to its rivals Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue.
Like its rivals, the Kylaq also comes in a turbo petrol engine for the base variant as well as the other models. Though the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue have turbo petrol engine options, their price is higher than Kylaq. Only the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO offer turbo petrol engine options under Rs 8,00,000 (ex-showroom). The Tata Nexon turbo petrol engine comes at a price of Rs 7,99,990 (ex-showroom), while the same engine option of Mahindra XUV 3XO costs Rs 7,79,000 (ex-showroom).
With the addition of Skoda Kylaq, the Indian automobile market now have three affordable turbo petrol engine options under Rs 8 lakh.
You can have the Tata Nexon at a starting price of Rs 7,99,990 (ex-showroom), while the Mahindra XUV 3XO starts at Rs 7,79,000 (ex-showroom). In both SUVs, only the entry-level variant is priced below Rs 8,00,000 (ex-showroom). With the Skoda Kylaq, buyers now have three such options.
The Skoda Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-litre TSI (turbo stratified injection) petrol engine that produces 115PS and 178Nm. It comes paired either with a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT.
The Tata Nexon comes with a Revotron 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, which develops 120PS and 170Nm.It can be bought with 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 6-speed AMT and 7-speed DCA transmission options. It is also offered in a Revotorq 1.5-litre diesel engine, delivering 115PS and 260Nm. It can be paired either with a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AMT.
Meanwhile, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is available in three engine options — 1.2-litre mStallion TCMPFi petrol, producing 111PS/200Nm, 1.2-litre mStallion TGDi petrol engine that churns out 130PS/230Nm and 1.5-litre CRDe diesel motor that offers 117PS/300Nm, respectively. The TCMPFi and TGDi units comes paired with 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT (torque converter), while the CRDe unit comes with 6-speed MT and 6-speed Autoshift+ (AMT) choices.
The Skoda Kylaq 1.0 TSI 6-speed MT, Tata Nexon 1.2 Revotron 5-speed MT, and Mahindra XUV 3XO 1.2 mStallion TCMPFi 6-speed MT can be purchased under Rs 8,00,000 (ex-showroom).
