Maruti Suzuki Jimny launched at Rs 12.74 lakh; Check feature, and all other details

Maruti Suzuki has launched the much-awaited Jimny SUV in India. The price of Jimny starts at Rs 12.74 lakh and can go up to Rs 15.05 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki has launched the much-awaited Jimny SUV in India. The the entry-level Zeta trim of the Jimny has been introduced at a price of Rs 12.74 lakh and the top-spec Alpha trim costs Rs 15.05 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, India).

Bookings for the Jimny have been underway for a token amount of Rs 25,000 after its debut at Auto Expo 2023. Maruti has claimed that the SUV has already received over 30,000 bookings. Customers can also opt to buy the Jimny via Maruti’s subscription programme for a monthly fee of Rs 33,550. As per dealers, deliveries will likely start from mid-June in a phased manner.

According to the company, the Jimny will be produced at Maruti’s Gurugram plant and exported to other markets from there.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny trims, features, Design

The Maruti Jimny sports upright pillars, slatted grille, circular headlamps, chunky off-road tyres flanked by flared wheel arches, and tailgate-mounted spare tyre. The Jimny 5-door rides on 15-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 195/80 section tyres. It sports a small ‘usable’ rear glass area due to a large-ish quarter glass.

The Jimny’s comes with automatic LED headlamps, a 9.0-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry and go, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and more. The safety features include six airbags, ESP and hill-hold assist as standard.

The Jimny is available in a total of seven colour options, two of which are dual-tone. Despite being a proper five-door, the Jimny is still only a four-seater model.

Inside the cabin, it sports an all-black theme dashboard and a grab handle on the passenger side and faux exposed bolts. It seems to some similar elements as the other Maruti models like the Swift such as the steering wheel and circular dials for the HVAC controls.

It measure 3,985mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,590mm. The Jimny 5-door’s wheelbase is 340mm longer than the 3-door model. It has a width of 1,645mm and a height of 1,720mm.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny powertrain, platform 

The Jimny is powered by a single 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 105hp, 134Nm. It comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic. The Jimny uses the older-spec K15B engine. Maruti claims a fuel efficiency of 16.94kpl for the manual variant, while the automatic variant returns a mileage of 16.39kpl.

The Jimny gets Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case and low-range gearbox with ‘2WD-high’, ‘4WD-high’ and ‘4WD-low’ modes. It’s underpinned by a rugged, ladder-frame chassis, gets a 3-link rigid axle suspension and an electronic traction control system. The Jimny 5-door has a ground clearance of 210mm. This makes it capable of tackling different types of terrain.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny rivals

The Jimny competes with the other ifestyle off-roaders in India, and although not a direct rival, it will see competition from the Mahindra Thar (Rs 10.54 lakh – Rs 16.77 lakh) and Force Gurkha (Rs 15.10 lakh) for its price and positioning.
