Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) will be introducing a new electric scooter meant for the Indian market very soon. The debut in India is expected to be on November 27 and the company has teased about the same. The tagline for the upcoming scooter announcement was “Watts ahead” and this is a subtle hint to the introduction of a new electric scooter.
The two-wheeler manufacturer had filed a patent last year and this includes design elements of a new electric scooter, initially reported Autocar India. The design element included fixed battery pack that is offered under the floorboard and a hub motor powering the rear wheel. This means that we will be getting a mid-range scooter. However, in future we are expected to get swappable batteries in the Honda’s electric scooter.
Honda’s new electric scooter will be offered on a new platform named “Platform E”. IT will also have a range of models with different battery configurations. The new model is expected to be Activa Electric and is likely to offer fixed battery design. On the other hand, the second electric model will get swappable battery system. Honda has also invested for at desiccated Factory E at Narsapura plant in Karnataka. Honda also plans to establish network of battery-swapping stations by launching with 23 stations in Bengaluru in Phase 1. The company also has a plan to convert its existing 6000 plus service touchpoints to Workshop E.
Honda is planning to reach neutrality across its motorcycle range during 2040s. As the new electric scooter is unveiled on November 27, it will be a small step towards electrification of its two-wheeler segment.
