Honda City e:HEV launched at Rs 19.49 lakh in India, Is it better than the 5th generation City

The Honda City hybrid version has been launched in India at price tag of Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Honda City e:HEV is priced Rs 4-4.5 lakh higher than the 5th generation of the Honda City. The hybrid sedan is based on the top trim of the Honda City (ZX trim). The new Honda City gets subtle changes from the exterior as well as from the interior which make the car visually attractive as well as more user-friendly for Indian riders.

Engine and driving modes

The Honda City Hybrid is powered by two electric motors that work along with a 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine. The 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle DOHC i-VTEC generates a power of 98PS of power and a torque of 127 Nm. However, when it is paired with the electric motor it the combined power is 126 PS. The total torque of the sedan is 253 Nm.

The fuel efficiency of the Honda City Hybrid is 26.5 kmpl (ARAI). The company offers an 8-year warranty on the lithium-ion battery as well. Three driving modes are offered on the Honda City Hybrid- Hybrid Drive, Engine Drive, and EV Drive. In the EV drive, the sedan is driven exclusively by motor using battery for a silent and zero-emission drive. In the Hybrid drive mode, the petrol engine acts as an electric generator and the motor drives the wheels, which provides an exhilarating feeling. The third mode is the Engine drive mode; the engine runs at high fuel efficiency to directly drive the wheels. However, when the situation demands, the motor gives a peak power boost.

Cabin

Interiors of the sedan include 17.7 cm (7 in) HD full colour tft meter console along with 20.3cm (8 in) advanced touchscreen display, power flow meters, Honda Sensing support and various other alerts and warnings. The Honda Sensing system offers some key features like Collision Mitigation Braking System (CBMS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control, Auto High Beam, etc.

Colours

The Honda City e HEV is offered in five attractive colours- radiant red metallic, platinum white pearl, meteoroid grey, golden brown metallic and lunar silver metallic.

Safety Features

The safety features on the Honda City sedan include 6 airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Agile Handling Assist (AHA), auto-dimming interior mirror, Hill Start Assist (HSA), multi-angle rearview camera, lane watch camera, tyre pressure monitoring system etc.

Availability and launch

Honda City Hybrid was globally launched in August 2020. Almost after 2 years, the Honda City Hybrid gets introduced in India. The nearest rivals of the Honda City petrol variant are Skoda Slavia, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna. However, the Honda City Hybrid is yet to have any competitor in the Indian market.
