The test mule of the new generation Maruti Suzuki Swift has been spotted testing camouflaged in the Indian roads. This has hinted that the vehicle might launch in the country soon. The new generation Maruti Suzuki Swift was recently showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show 2023. Though the brand called it a concept, the model showcased at the motor show was nearly production-ready.

New-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift: what’s new

According to reports, the all new Swift could launch at the start of the Next year. The heavily camouflaged does not really reveal much about the vehicle except for the sharper headlamps and tail lamps. However, it seems to have a redesigned grille and bumper design, and some strong shoulder line across the car.

The next-gen Swift is said to be a heavily updated version of the third-gen platform. The new Swift will be 15mm longer, 40mm narrower and 30mm taller than the ongoing model. However, the wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,450mm.

Though the interior of the test mule was not visible, we can expect it to be similar as the Baleno and Fronx. The concept model showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show featured a floating touchscreen unit, steering wheel, instrument cluster, HVAC controls and more in the inside. It also had the ADAS features and rear disc brakes, which will likely not be offered in the India-spec Swift.

The test mule can also be seen sporting blacked-out wheels, which are possibly 16-inch units.

Powertrain options

The new-gen Swift concept is powered with an all-new 1.2 litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. Maruti has codenamed the engine as Z12 and plans to replace the current K-series 1.2 litre, four-cylinder motor with it. Though, the company has not revealed specific details about the engine, it is expected to offer high fuel efficiency and similar power output like the K12 unit.

The Swift shown at the Tokyo Motor Show also had hybrid tech, however, sources say that the production-spec Swift in India will have the regular engine.

If reports are to be believed, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift will launch sometime in the second half of 2024 in India.
