Odisha Police To Start Special Cell To Monitor Crime Against Women

Cuttack: The Odisha police have decided to open a dedicated ‘crime against women’ cell for better supervision into the investigation of cases pertaining to crime against women.

The cell will function under the state Crime Branch while it will be headed by either an additional superintendent of police (ASP) or deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of the Crime Branch.

Police said that the cell will monitor cases under Red Flag category, which deals with sensational cases of crime against women including rape and murder. “The cell will ensure prompt investigation and finalisation on the investigation of rape cases within two months. The cell will also pursue investigation and prosecution of cases related to acid attack,” said a police official.

The dedicated cell will also coordinate with SPs for payment of compensation to victims under the Victim Compensation Scheme 2017.
