BMC Food Inspector, Helper caught red-handed while taking bribe

Berhampur: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested at least two officials of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) including a Food Inspector red-handed while taking Rs 1,000 as bribe from a hotel owner.

The arrested officials have been identified as Tapaswini Behera, Food Inspector and Dharmananda Nayak, Helper.

As per the Berhampur Vigilance Division sources, Tapaswini had demanded a sum of Rs 1,000 from Ramesh Padhi, the complainant and the owner of Ambika Hotel located near Berahmpur Station Road, a few days ago to issue him a food license.

However, after Padhi lodged a complaint with the Vigilance department in connection with the case, the officials laid a trap and caught Tapaswini red-handed from his office while taking bribe. Dharmananda was taken into custody for helping her.

Later, a team of Vigilance officials also conducted a raid at the accused Food Inspector’s residence and verified various documents.

The arrested duo would be forwarded to court today.
