Youth trampled to death by wild tusker in Mayurbhanj

Baripada: With no respite in sight from elephant attack in the state, a youth was trampled to death by a wild tusker in Naya Purusottampur village under Baripada Forest Range in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Bishu Dehury of the same village.

The victim, who ventured into a forested area near the village to pick plums in the morning, came across the wild tusker at around 7 AM. The pachyderm which is believed to have sneaked into the area last night pounced on the victim and trampled him to death on the spot.

Forest officials recovered the body of the victim from the forest later in the morning and rushed it for autopsy to Baripada Hospital.

Meanwhile, forest officials have started alerting the villagers through loudspeakers in view of the presence of wild jumbos. They have alerted the villagers not to venture into the forest  The drive is being carried out chiefly in Betanati, Morada and Baripada Forest Ranges into which at least 8 wild jumbos are believed to have sneaked from Similipal Reserve Forest area on Friday. On the same day, three persons including two women were hurt in jumbo attack and are currently hospitalized.
