Sundergarh: In a fresh incident of man-animal conflict in the state, a youth was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Kadapani Gotitangara village under Nuagaon block in the district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Ishak Kujur of Kadapani village.

The incident took place early in the morning while the victim was on his way to attend nature’s call at a farmland near his home. Unaware of the presence of the wild elephant herd in the village, he had a close encounter with a jumbo on the road. The jumbo pounced on him and trampled on the spot.

After getting intimation on the incident, forest officials reached the spot and seized the dead body. They also tried to disperse the herd present near the village.

Notably, Jharkhand forest officials had dispersed a herd of 17 elephants from the bordering districts a few days ago which had strayed into Sundergarh district and created havoc.
