Balangir: A youth committed suicide by jumping before a running train in Birna village under Kantabanji police limits in the district on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Gouri Shankar Tandi, a resident of Birna village.
Gouri who was undergoing skill training under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), left his house in the afternoon to attend the classes. However, instead of heading to the training center, he reached near Ghanamahula-Kasamala railway track near Muribahal Railway Station and jumped before a running freight carrier. He was killed after being mowed down by the train.
Muribahal Railway Station officials immediately intimated the matter to Kantabanji GRP unit which reached the spot and rushed the body for post-mortem at Kantabanji CHC. The body was later handed over to his family members.
The cause behind the suicide of the youth is not known.
