Angul: Mystery shrouds the death of a woman in Balijereng village under Purunakote police limits in the district who committed suicide on Monday by dousing herself in kerosene and setting her on fire.
The deceased has been identified as Sandhyarani Sahoo.
As per Bina Sahoo, mother-in-law of the deceased, Sandhyarani indulged in a verbal duel with her this morning after she rejected the latter’s proposal to go to her paternal home. Later she went out of her home in some work and found the deceased charred to death on her return.
However, Markand Sahoo, father of the deceased has claimed that his daughter has been murdered by her in-laws. He said Sandhyarani’s in-laws’ prevented her from visiting her paternal home on several occasions in the past and finally killed her today.
Police reached the spot and seized the body for autopsy later in the day.
“From the prima facie evidence it was found that the girl was died due to burn injury. However, as far as the murder allegation is concerned it could be clear after receiving of the autopsy report,” said Bimal Lenka, Additional Tehsildar, Angul while informing media on the case.
