Khordha: Tension prevailed in Kotalanga village under Begunia tehsil in Khordha district on Sunday after a woman died under suspicious circumstances and her family members claimed it to be a dowry killing carried out by her in-laws.
The deceased, identified as Binati Behera of Thanapalli village under Begunia police limits here, was married to Kalangdi Behera of Kotalanga village for one year.
As per the complaint of the deceased woman’s family, she was being tortured by her in-laws since her marriage to bring more dowry from home.
However, the in-laws of the deceased have rubbished the allegation and have claimed that Binati was sick for past few days and had been admitted to Khordha DHH last night where her condition deteriorated further. She died under treatment this morning.
Meanwhile, acting upon the complaint of the deceased’s family Begunia Police has detained her husband and father-in-law for questioning.
Autopsy report of the deceased has been awaited by police to decide the next course of action.
