Wild elephant tramples man to death in Cuttack village

Cuttack: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict in the state, an elderly man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Taila village near Khairapanga under Badamba police limits in the district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Binod Barad (54), a resident of Khairapanga village.

Binod along with two of his friends was on a visit to Taila village early in the morning to pluck cashew from a garden when the mishap took place. The trio came across a jumbo which had sneaked into the garden and tried to escape from the spot. While the other two succeeded in their bid Binod was lifted by the jumbo and thrown on the ground. He died on the spot.

Forest officials reached the village following the mishap and took stock of the situation.

Angry locals were holding a protest in the village keeping the body and were demanding compensation to the family of the deceased till this report was being filed.
