Wild elephant tramples man to death in Sundergarh

Rourkela: In yet another case of man-animal conflict in the state a wild elephant trampled a man to death in Lulutuli village under Kuanrmunda Forest Range in Sundergarh district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Naveen Kerketa.

The mishap took place early in the morning while Kerketa was asleep in his home. A wild elephant which sneaked into the village first damaged his house and then trampled him brutally. Kerketa died on the spot.

Forest officials have reached the spot and expedited efforts to disperse wild elephants present in the nearby forest areas to avert any further eventuality.

The incident has left the people in the village in a state of panic as in a similar incident, a man had been crushed to death by a jumbo in Katepur village under Bisra Forest Range in the district yesterday.
