Tribal bodies stage protest over vilified campaign against KIIT, KISS

Bhubaneswar: Thousands of members from different tribal bodies took to streets in support of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) on Tuesday and demanded action against RTI activist Subash Mohapatra and a particular news channel for running vilified campaign against these two institutes.

As a part of the protest, the Mohana Adivashi Sangh of Gajapati district took out a rally which marched from High School Square to Mohana Tehsil Officer and submitted a memorandum to the Tehsildar demanding arrest of Mohapatra.

Similarly, the Mayurbhanj Adivashi Sangh held a demonstration before District Collector’s Office in Baripada and submitted him a charter of demand addressed to CM Naveen Patanik seeking the latter’s intervention in bringing the persons involved in defaming KIIT and KISS to books.

Sambalpur district Adivashi Kalyan Sangh held protests in Sambalpur town and submitted a five-point charter of demand to CM via the District Collector.

Going a step ahead from their counterparts in other districts, the Balangir District Adivasi Kalyan Sangh organised a rally from Koshal Kalamandal Ground holding traditional weapons and gheraoed District Collector’s Office.

Rayagada KISS parent’s association held a march across the Rayagada town holding placards in support of KIIT and KISS and submitted a letter of demand to the Collector Guha Punam Tapas Kumar on the issue.

Kandhamal Zilla Adivashi Mahasangh organized a rally from Bus Stand to District Collector’s Office. It submitted a five-point charter of demand, including arrest of Mohapatra to the Additional Collector Sarat Chandra Panda.

All the tribal bodies have warned to intensify the stir in coming days if government fails to take action against the accused at its earliest.
