Student commits suicide after failing to excel in Odisha Matric Exam

Jajpur: In an unfortunate incident, a tenth standard student of Ratalanga village in the district committed suicide by drinking poison after poor performance in the annual Matric exams, results of which were announced by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) today.

The deceased student has been identified as Padmalochan Mallik of Ratneswara Bidyapitha.

According to reports, Mallik took the extreme step by consuming poison as he had secured only 263 marks in the tenth exam.

After knowing that Padmalochan had taken poison, his family members rushed him to the district headquarters hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

“Padmalochan had expected to score either A1 or A2 in the Matric exam. However, he got only 263 marks today following which he took the drastic step. Initially, he vomited in the house. Later, when his mother asked him, he revealed to have taken poison. We rushed him to the hospital, but he breathed his last,” said Abhimanyu Mallik, relative of the deceased student.
