Sishu Mandir students to get text books free

Saraswati Sisu MandirBhubaneswar:  The Odisha government on Thursday announced it would distribute free textbooks to students of Shishu Mandir Schools from Class 1 to Class 8, managed by Bharatiya Siksha Vikash Sansthan, across the State.

Talking to media persons, School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patro said “The government has decided to provide free textbooks to students of Bharatiya Siksha Vikash Sansthan from Class I to VIII free of cost. We will supply whatever books are available with us to the schools.”

The government has taken the decision following the outstanding performance of students of Shishu Mandir Schools in the 10th board examinations over the past three years, Patro added.

School and Mass Education Secretary Ranjana Chopra has written to Textbook Bureau of Publication & Marketing to supply free books to students of Class I to VIII studying in institutions run by the educational charitable trust.

“Bharatiya Siksha Vikash Sansthan is admitting the students of different castes, creeds and religions on poverty-cum-merit basis and imparting education in Odia medium. Government have been pleased to decide that free textbooks will also be provided to students of class-I to VIII of recognised schools managed by the Sansthan, Odisha for the time being to promote teaching of Odia and also to ensure quality education,” Chopra wrote.

This move will benefit over two lakh students of 1037 Shishu Mandir Schools across the state.
