Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday abolished the Siksha Sahayak post following the demand of the agitating teachers.
School & Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patro after holding discussions with teachers at the state secretariat to sort out their problems said that the Siksha Sahayak post will be abolished and teachers to be posted as Junior Teachers henceforth.
The Minister further said that the Junior Teachers will be on a contract for first three years. Patro also assured to regularize the jobs of 2011 batch applicants. However, the Minister is stated to have told that the State Government would fund 40 per cent of the hike demanded by members of the association while the rest has to be met by the Centre.
Besides raising their salary by 25 per cent, the contractual teachers have been demanding an annual increment in salaries just like their permanent teacher counterparts.
Notably, Demanding fulfillment of their seven-point charter of demands, the Odisha Siksha Sahayak Association (OSSA) had launched an indefinite agitation at Lower PMG today.
As many as 70,000 Siksha Sahayaks (SS) have also gone on a mass leave from today to press their demands which included change of the designation of Siksha Sahayak, an increase of 25% in the pay scale of the Siksha Sahayaks according to the 7th Pay Commission recommendations and regularization of job.
