Angul: Personnel of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) on Saturday managed to recover the dead body of an engineer of a private firm who went missing in Samal Barage following a boat capsize which took place on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Satpathy, a resident of Berhampur.
Some locals spotted Satpathy’s body floating in the barrage this morning and called up Fire Brigade and ODRAF personnel. The body was later fished out of water by the 10 member ODRAF team which had been engaged in rescue work for past 40 hours.
However, another victim in the incident, one Ashok Aicha of Parjang village of Dhenkanal district is still missing and efforts are on to trace him.
The mishap took place at around 2.30 PM on Thursday while at least five employees of Cuttack based Orbital Infrastructure Consultancy and Research Private Limited were busy in soil testing inside the barrage. The boat they were boarding sunk mid water following a sudden release of water from the Barrage. While at least three labourers managed to swim across to the shore to save their lives, Satpathy and Aicha were swept away by the prevailing strong current.
