Angul: In a broad daylight heist, a group of armed looters have robbed about Rs 1 crore in cash along with gold jewellery worth lakhs from the Andhra Bank here on Friday.
The incident occurred between 10.30 AM and 11 AM during the rush hour of the bank which is located at Angul Bazar Square. At least six looters entered the bank as customers and started threatening the staffs along with the customers at gun point after putting on masks. They later locked up the officials in a room inside the bank premises and took away cash and jewellery kept in the strong room before decamping.
Angul Police reached the spot after getting information on the incident and rescued the bank staffs.
Police are examining the CCTV footage available with some shopping malls located in front of the bank to identify the looters.
Angul SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra has also reached the spot and taken stock of the situation.
