Relatives create ruckus after patient given ‘expired’ saline at Basudevpur CHC

Bhadrak: Tension prevailed at the Basudevpur CHC here this morning after the relatives of a woman patient admitted to the hospital found an expired saline being administered to her and scuffled with the staffs.

As per the report, one Shantilata Giri of Kaithakhola village had been admitted to the CHC following a suicide attempt by consuming poison at around 11 AM last night. As a part of her treatment the doctors at the hospital had prescribed at least three salines since last night of which two had already been administered and the third one was under progress this morning, when the discrepancy came to notice.

One of the relatives of the patient found the saline bearing an expiry date of April 2018 and objected the nurses present at the CHC. A verbal due erupted between the two sides over the issue for few minutes which later escalated to a scuffle.

While the expired saline was removed from the patient by the doctors following the trouble, her relatives demanded an action on the guilty.

On the other hand the Medical Officer of the CHC has claimed that he has no information on any expired salines’ storage a the hospital.

No police case had been lodged in connection with the incident till this report was being filed.
