Puri: ‘Nandighosha’, the chariot of the cynosure and darling of the crowd Lord Jagannath resumed its journey this morning to reach His aunt’s abode Sri Gundicha temple amid beating of gongs blowing of conchs and frenzied chanting of ‘Haribol’ and ‘hulhul’.

The chariot pulling which began again at around 8.30 AM witnessed a jostle among the devotees to touch the ropes despite rain. It was well expected as the devotees took part in darshan of their beloved lord despite heavy shower which lashed Puri last night.

Earlier in the morning, servitors performed rituals like ‘Mangala Alati’ and ‘Abakash’ of the lord at His chariot as a part of the practice.

While no chariot pulling takes place after the setting in of the dusk, the Nandighosha could be pulled till Balagandi on the Grand Road within that period yesterday. On the other hand, lord Balabhadra’s chariot Taladhwaja and Goddess Subhadra’s chariot ‘Darpadalan’ reached their destination Sri Gundicha temple before dusk.

Police have tightened the security arrangements around the three chariot at the Gundicha temple for the smooth conduct of the rituals. The ‘Adapa Mandap Bije’ of the deities would be held tomorrow.
