Railways to introduce innovative techniques to curb train mishaps

Railway Minister Piyush GoyalNew Delhi: Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday announced that a series of innovative techniques would soon be introduced to curb rail mishaps. They include revamping the existing signalling system by use of TPWS – Train protection and Warning System and MTRC, Mobile Train Radio Communication and extensive use of mobile apps for monitoring and passenger services.

“Railways is committed to ensuring high standards of safety, speed and service for Indian consumers and also ensuring contribution to national development”, said Piyush Goyal while addressing a media conference here this morning.

“CCTV cameras are being installed in coaches and stations for enhanced security”, he added. “All stations and trains will soon have high speed wi-fi connectivity”.

The Railway Ministry also shared the Minister’s views with a series of post in its twitter handle. “We, with the help of technology, are working to bring accountability, transparency & proper monitoring in the Railways:MR @PiyushGoyal”, says a twitter post.

The Minister also said, electrification of rail tracks would be completed by next 4-5 years, which would save energy costs over Rs. 10,000 crore and reduce pollution and dependence on imported diesel.

Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha and Railway Board Chairman Ashwini Lohani were also present on the occasion.
