Police, Maoists exchange fire in Malkangiri, no casualty

Malkangiri: In the latest confrontation between security personnel and Maoists in the state, a bloody gun battle erupted between the two sides in Ramaguda village in Malkangiri district on Thursday.

The exchange of fire took place after a joint combing party of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh police was busy in combing near Balimela reservoir in the morning. As the cops neared a red camp the cadres opened fire at them in a bid to escape. The Maoists also blasted a landmine during their attempt.

While no casualty has been reported during the clash, police has intensified combing operation in the area to find out the cadres holed up in nearby forests.
