Kamakhyanagar: At least 70 passengers sustained injuries as a stationary bus turned turtle after being hit by another bus from the rear at Katumunda Square on Dhenkanal-Rourkela Road under Kamkhyanagar police limits in Dhenkanal district last night.

The mishap took place at around 2.30 AM in the night while a RB Coach bus from Bhubaneswar was on its way to the Steel City. Due to some reason the driver of the overspeeding bus failed to spot another Rourkela bound bus of Sushil Travels bearing the registration number OD 05W 4298, which had made a brief halt on the Dhenkanal-Rourkela Road to allow some of the passengers to attend the nature’s call, and ended up ramming into it from behind.

The impact of the collision was so serious that the Sushil Travel’s bus skidded off the road to plunge into a nearby farmland and turn turtle.

The injured passengers from both the buses were rushed to Parjang Police Station with the help of some locals immediately.

Police have reached the spot and started investigation in the case after seizing the mangled vehicles.
