Baripada: Throwing up an open challenge to police at a crucial period when the district is gripped in Bahuda Jatra fervour, unidentified miscreants burgled over Rs 20 lakh from at least four ATMs of different banks located in Baripada Town last night.
Those ATMs which were looted last night are, UBI ATM at Palabani, Axis Bank ATM at Station Bazaar and Tulsi Choura and Bank of India ATM at Poda Astia.
The loots came to light this morning after some customers found the ATMs ransacked and intimated police.
Baripada Police reached the spot and carried out the preliminary investigation with the help of scientific team and dog squad.
All the loots are suspected to have been carried out by the same gang as the modus operandi in the loot appears to be the same, said Abhimanyu Nayak, SDPO, Baripada. The looted teller machines were broke open with the help of gas cutters, he added.
