Cuttack: Orissa High court on Monday granted bail to senior IAS officer Vinod Kumar and former executive director (technical) of Odisha Rural Housing and Development Corporation (ORHDC) Purna Chandra Dash, who were awarded three years jail term each by a Vigilance court on charges of corruption on Friday .

On August 10, Kumar and Das were sent to Jarapada jail in Bhubaneswar after a Vigilance court in the State capital awarded them three years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and slapped Rs 75,000 each in connection in connection with 2001 ORHDC scam .

The Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, had found Kumar and five others guilty in connection with the 2001 scam which ran into crores of rupees.

The case dates back to 2001 when ORHDC had sanctioned loans to real estate firms and NGOs for construction of shelter houses after the October 1999 Super Cyclone, which ravaged the coastal districts in the state. About a dozen cases were registered after it came to light that Kumar and other employees had allegedly flouted basic norms of inspection and verification while disbursing loans to the tunes of over 100 crores.
