Odisha’s Pramod Bhagat bags gold in Thailand Para Badminton International-2018

Bangkok: Odisha’s Pramod Bhagat won gold in the Thailand Para-Badminton International tournament here on Sunday.

Bhagat defeated his fellow Indian competitor Manoj Sarkar by scoring 21-18, 21-9 in the men’s singles SL3 category to win the medal.

Bhagat of Bargarh district, afflicted with polio at the age of seven, had first participated in national para badminton championship in 2006. He bagged gold medal in the doubles event of the World Championship in Germany 2013.

He has also secured bronze medals in singles and doubles event of the 4th Turkish Para Badminton Championship that was held in May 2018.

In 2015, Bhagat had also bagged top positions in the BWF Para Badminton World Championship that was held in United Kingdom.

Dileswar Rao, Diparanjan Bisoi and Sunil Pradhan are the other three players from Odisha who have been selected to represent India in the tournament which kicked off on Wednesday.
