Odisha Transgenders turn Kanwariyas to pray for Kerala Flood Victims, former PM Vajpayee

Cuttack: Showing their solidarity for the flood affected people of Kerala and for the departed soul of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the transgenders of Odisha conducted ‘Jal Abhisek’ of Lord Shiva on the last Monday of the holy month of Shraavan.

Led by All Odisha Third Gender Welfare Trust Chairman Meera Parida, more than 200 transgenders from across different parts of the state like the Kanwariyas (Bol Bam devoteescollected water from the Mahanadi River at Gadgadia ghat in Cuttack and are slated to offer it to the Lord in Lingaraj Temple praying for the Kerala flood victims, departed soul of Vajpayee and world peace.

“Our main intention is to pray for the Kerala flood victims and the restoration of world peace. We also will be praying for the departed soul of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee,” said Meera Parida.

Hailing the initiatives of the transgenders, President of International Human Rights Council Sasmita Das said, “The novel initiative undertaken by the transgenders for world peace and the Kerala flood victims is really commendable. We have come forward to aid them in their noble gesture.”
