Odisha to raise Mahanadi issue at Regional Conference of Eastern States on Water Resources

Kolkata: Odisha will raise the Mahanadi river water issue at the first Regional Conference of Eastern States on Water Resources, which is scheduled to be here today to address water issues of five Eastern states.

Minister Surya Narayan Patro will lead the delegation of the state in the conference. The Principal Secretary, Water resource Department, Government of Odisha, will raise the issue of delay in functioning of  Mahanadi Tribunal.

Besides, the State would ask to put on hold in construction work of Mohamala Sirapur barrage and other projects on Mahanadi upstream in Chhattisgarh.

Union Minister of State for Water Resources Arjun Ram Meghwal will participate in the conference which will be attended by Minister of Charge of Water Resources, Principal Secretary and Engineer-in-Chief of Water Resources and senior officers of the department of five Eastern states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal.
